Geospatial Data Scientist and Engineer

In my role, I deliver innovative geospatial data science solutions to help the business make intelligence-led decisions increasing productivity and operational efficiency. My solutions include the following: • Spatial interaction modelling to help determine where to sell and guide the business in locating new bases of operation • Estimating remaining capacity on services based on current workload and operating environment I develop ArcGIS Online Applications to give business users greater operational awareness, improve efficiency and understand issues with their service. I train more junior team members and design and lead in-house GIS training for non-GIS professionals, enabling colleagues to use and understand the tools developed for them.

In my role, I automate routine repetitive tasks to increase work-flow efficiency. I improve the sales process by developing spatial interaction models and classified areas based on sales value, current market share, potential market size, and travel time from nearest depot. I optimise efficiency of waste vehicles by evaluating and creating techniques for quantifying vehicle effectiveness and adjusting productivity based on operating geography. I lead and mentor new employees as per project requirements ensuring no compromises on work efficiency. • Offered waste collection and street cleansing routes for several contracts with combined budget of £156M. • Migrated systems from on-site premises to Amazon Web Services (AWS) EC2 cloud solution. • Enhanced annual operating income by £1M per annum through internalisation of subcontracted work and operational efficiencies. • Assessed and identified candidate locations for siting of new waste collection satellite facilities across Scotland by delivery of exceptional spatial analysis.
