Kenya National Bureau of Statistics | Oct 2012 - Present

Senior Statistician

Statistician, Kenya National Bureau of Statistics • Founded the ICT Statistics Section at KNBS, where I initiated the ICT chapter in the Economic Survey report. Since then, I have continuously built and measured the ICT sector, significantly contributing to the development of ICT statistics in Kenya. • Currently serving as Chair of the Expert Group of ICT Household Indicators at ITU, Chair of the Measuring Ecommerce and Digital Economy Group at UNCTAD, and First Vice-Chairman of the Takwimu Statistical Association at UNECA. In these roles, I provide strategic leadership and contribute to global statistical advancements, particularly in ICT. • Support the development, management, and implementation of ICT-related projects, overseeing the ICT section work plan, budget, and activities, while managing ad-hoc projects to ensure alignment with organizational and global goals. • Led a pioneering big data pilot project in collaboration with ITU and the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), utilizing mobile phone data for measuring the information society and transport statistics, showcasing innovative methodologies in data collection. • Proficient in Python and statistical software such as SPSS and E-Views, I leverage these tools to conduct in-depth data analysis, build predictive models, and automate data workflows. My expertise in Python has been instrumental in driving advanced data integration, optimization, and analysis across projects such as the ICT chapter of the Economic Survey report and Census monographs. • Certified in Data Science, I apply advanced analytics techniques to uncover insights, optimize processes, and drive evidence-based decision-making. This certification has enhanced my ability to integrate data science methodologies into large-scale ICT and statistics-related projects. • Supervise and mentor teams while collaborating with project leaders, ensuring successful execution of largescale initiatives such as ICT surveys, population censuses, FinAccess surveys, foreign investment surveys, and ICT-gender projects. • Monitor industry trends and innovations, providing quarterly reports with actionable insights to guide future projects and strategies. • Deliver consistent mentoring, training, and onboarding for teams of contractors and staff, fostering a highperformance culture aligned with organizational goals. • Offer extensive pro bono data analysis expertise to United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programs, supporting impactful initiatives across various UN projects.
