Conducted an independent ecological field study as part of upper-division ecology coursework. Designed and executed a group research project assessing the effects of prescribed fire and soil moisture on invertebrate abundance and richness. Collected field data using soil moisture probes and core sampling across burned and unburned riparian zones. In the lab, used Tullgren funnels and dissecting microscopes to extract and classify invertebrates. Applied generalized linear models (GLMs) in R to analyze statistical relationships between environmental variables and invertebrate metrics. Documented findings in a scientific report and presented conclusions on disturbance ecology and species distribution. Strengthened skills in experimental design, hypothesis testing, ecological fieldwork, and data visualization in R.
