• Conservation of Adriatic sandbanks: assessment of a Marine Protected Area effectiveness by zoomacrobenthos analysis • Conducted identification of macrobenthic organisms to species level on >1000 organisms • Created species database consisting of preserved specimens and photographs for future projects • Performed meiobenthic extraction from soil samples taken inside and outside the MPA and identified all organisms to family level • Performed statistical analysis on community data combined with nutrient analysis to give an overall assessment of the functionality of this MPA • Summarized findings in a scientific report presented to the MPA managers

Research Intern

• Study on the genetic diversity of marine benthic invertebrates in transitional ecosystems • Performed DNA extractions on tissue samples of benthic invertebrate species for the purpose of genetic identification • Carried out PCR experiments and designed new primers to be used in the experiments to amplify DNA fragments for Sanger sequencing • Added sequenced fragments to existing database to compare populations in transitional ecosystems in European waters
