University of Alaska Fairbanks | Jun 2009 - Jan 2010

Graduate Research Assistant

Analyzed temperature and pressure of a geothermal reservoir called Chena Hot Springs located 60 miles north of Fairbanks, Alaska, by investigating the decline in its temperature and pressure. • Conducted a series of static and flowing well tests at the site were utilized with a down-hole Kuster gauge which recorded the temperature and pressure. • Analyzed well cuttings of a newly drilled well to understand its lithology, identified permeable horizons during drilling by monitoring fluid volumes, recommended well completion and casing depths based on down-hole data, identified fracture patterns and plugged static/dead wells with bentonite. • Successfully performed a pressure transient analysis between 4 geothermal wells and using the temperature and pressure data developed a “conceptual model” for the Chena geothermal reservoir. • Identified deeper drilling targets by locating hotter formations. The outcome of the project was used as a Master’s Thesis to graduate from the program.
