My Work Experience

Where I've interned and worked during my career.

Hall Green Secondary School | Sep 2015 - Present

Maths Teacher

Primarily, I teach well-planned lessons and assess pupils as appropriate to ensure continual progress in mathematics. Within the department, I have helped with updating our KS3 assessments to match with a maths mastery curriculum, participated in peer learning walks, have assisted with book trawls; these are duties that are done as needed. I am a department representative and whole school, Teaching and Learning meetings. Additionally, I am an active form tutor: monitoring praises, penalties, attendance, and punctuality; supervising the habitual following of reading, assembly, games, PHSE and quiz day, and writing reports as needed. Finally, I provide colleagues with IT support, particularly helping them to use Excel for educational data analytics needs.

Mathnasium of Ashburn | Oct 2011 - Jul 2014

Centre Director

My most important function at Mathnasium was working with students. I assessed them and put together an individual learning plan for each one, focussing on their needs at an appropriate level and blending their time at Mathnasium, as appropriate, with what they were learning in school. I also taught them on a one-on-one basis, concentrating on building number sense, numerical fluency, and confidence. Additionally, I acted as the primary point of contact for parents of current and potential students. I explained the details to interested parties, including responding to inquiries that come in via telephone or through the Mathnasium website. I helped parents to understand where their child was, what we were doing with their child and why, and answered any questions that came up about their child's mathematics education. As needed, I acted as a go-between with parents and teachers. As Centre Director, I oversaw, trained and supervised a team of instructors. When issues arose or shifts needed to be made in teaching style, I provided appropriate feedback and followed through that changes were made. I also ensured that instructors were displaying good working practice (e.g. arriving on time, dressing properly, using appropriate language, etc.). I also kept the Mathnasium database up to date, managed monthly billing to parents, tracked instructor hours, completed daily reports, and cleaned the centre. Throughout the year I researched and organized sponsorship opportunities for Mathnasium of Ashburn to take part in throughout the local community.

Linton Hall School | Sep 2008 - Jun 2010

Pre-Algebra Teacher

I planned and implemented Pre-Algebra lessons along with other day-to-day teacher duties including working with the resource teacher to better serve students with learning disabilities, keeping in regular communication with parents, and working with students outside of class as needed.

St Marks Catholic School | Sep 2007 - Jun 2008

2nd Grade TA

I assisted the lead teacher in the daily running of a second grade classroom. In addition to regular duties, I planned and executed learning centres and created a reading database to effectively track students’ individual reading levels. I also acted as co-sponsor of the school's Mathematics Club.
