Key Quotes

The technology landscape is moving so fast. Business is moving so fast. You've got to transform your business. Don't waste your time integrating the different pieces and managing your own like infrastructure. Right. think one thing I'm hearing loud and clear from customers is we need more bandwidth to actually make business impact. This is where I really advise you to use managed services. Enable us to do the undifferentiated heavy lifting for you, so you can really focus your time on innovating and delivering business outcomes, versus dealing with the plumbing.

You can't be successful with GenAI without really understanding where your operational data sits and having the tools and capabilities to bring that operational data to your foundation models.

Key Takeaways

  1. Before adopting new AI-specific databases like vector databases, first assess whether your existing database, such as Postgres or Oracle, has vector capabilities or can integrate with AI tools like LangChain or Vertex AI.

  2. Use federated queries to seamlessly access data across multiple systems, like operational databases and data lakes, without moving data, enhancing efficiency in AI and analytics workflows.

  3. Use federated queries to seamlessly access data across multiple systems, like operational databases and data lakes, without moving data, enhancing efficiency in AI and analytics workflows.

Richie Cotton: Hi Andy, welcome to the show.

Anti Gutmans: All right, thanks for having me.

Richie Cotton: Just to begin with, databases are incredibly important for anyone working in data and AI. Same is true of generative AI, but I'm wondering how they fit together. So can you just tell me how our database is used by people? AI applications.

Anti Gutmans: you know, I think first of all, any AI application is foremost an application, and we know there's really, there really no applications without a database underlying them. that's, I would say the starting point. Now, the interesting thing is that as we think about we have these really powerful foundation models, right?

Like, like our Gemini model, but those powerful foundation models, they do elucidate, and really the way to get the real benefits, from these models is to take your operational data and really merge that together with the foundation model. So you can get very accurate.

contextually relevant enterprise grade experiences. So the way I really think about this is you can't be successful with Gen AI without really understanding where your operational data sits and having the tools and capabilities to bring that operational data to your foundation models.

Richie Cotton: Okay, so it's really about hooking up, well, we've got all this data that just make sure that the AI is giving the correct answer and it's finding ways to hook that up to your application.

Anti Gutmans: Yeah, absolut
