Key Quotes

Writing software comes with a lot of responsibility, especially if you share it with people. You are responsible for what that software can do and what that software can expose. And so if you're building on top of other people's data, that's a really big weight that you have to think it through very, very deliberately.

Working with agents is mostly context management. In Replit I can have one agent working on the features and then, I create a new chat. Now you're in kind of a fresh context. You can prompt something like, ‘hey, I just made this great application. It doesn't have any tech tests. I want you to go through it. Use a critical eye.’ Your new agent can implement some tests, run them, and it'll tell you what it did. Now it's your responsibility as the builder to go through and make sure what it did makes sense.

Key Takeaways

  1. Treat vibe coding as an iterative build loop rather than a one-shot prompt: start with a personal MVP you can finish in an afternoon, then harden it only if it needs to serve other users or teams.

  2. Reduce security risk by designing data access first: expose only sanitized views/tables to builders and enforce SSO/RBAC so teams can build internal tools without ever touching sensitive underlying datasets.

  3. Improve code quality by separating contexts: use one agent/chat to implement features and a fresh agent/chat to critique, add tests, and set up linting/type checks so the builder gets an independent review loop.

Richie Cotton: Hey Matt, welcome to the show. It's

Matt Palmer: great to be here. Appreciate you

Richie Cotton: having me.

Matt Palmer: Uh, yeah, great to have you here.

Richie Cotton: Uh, so, uh, to be with, I need some motivation. So, uh, talk me through like what's the coolest thing you've seen vibe coded.

Matt Palmer: Yeah, so I think it's, um, it kind of depends. It's all relative, right? So, uh, I've seen some really amazing non-developers build tools for their businesses, for their jobs, uh, really just to make their lives better or their friends and their family, right?

So, uh, recently I saw a doctor. An app to help him with his practice, so help him kind of manage his patents. Uh, saw another doctor actually just yesterday, um, build an app with some interesting concentration curves around, uh, dosing for specific peptides, which was amazing. And so those are more practice specific, but then I've also seen independent contractors build apps to help them.

With their business to make tens of thousand dollars of dollars a month. Um, and even an interactive AI movie, um, that someone generated. So everything kind of ranging from media to business to entrepreneurship. All that stuff gets me really excited 'cause it's super practical and I can see impacting people's lives.

Richie Cotton: I love those examples. I mean particularly the, the stuff for entrepreneurs girl. Um, I think a lot of peopl
