From Product Manager to AI Leader: Raul's DataCamp Journey

Learn how Raul deepened his technical understanding and built practical AI applications so he could be more effective in his role at eBay.
Dec 13, 2024

As a Product Manager at eBay building new AI features, Raul Romero recognized that staying at the conceptual level of AI wasn't enough. As a college student studying Digital Humanities and AI for Social Sciences, Raul Romero first encountered DataCamp in his coursework, using it to learn Python from scratch. This year Raul returned to DataCamp to deepen his technical understanding and build practical AI applications so he can be more effective in his role.

I wanted AI courses that helped me create my own projects and allow me to understand things at a deeper level.

Building AI Engineering Skills

Raul has gone on to complete over 35 courses, focusing primarily on Python programming and AI applications. He has earned over 100,000xp on Datacamp. Two courses in particular transformed Raul's approach to AI product management:

  • Associate AI Engineer for Developers Track: Gained deep understanding of RAG, LangChain, and embeddings, enabling him as a PM to better understand tradeoffs and architect AI powered features.
  • Developing AI Applications: Learned to build end-to-end solutions using OpenAI APIs, Hugging Face models, and practical implementation techniques.

A Platform Built for Learning

Raul has kept coming back to Datacamp over the years to learn the technical skills he needed. He particularly values:

  • Fresh, Updated Content: The regular course updates across a wide array of technologies on Datacamp keep pace with rapidly evolving AI technologies and methodologies. This allows him to quickly skill up and stay on top of the latest tools.
  • DataLab: Datacamp provides a reliable notebook workspace for data manipulation and model testing without the hassle of data loss or runtime disconnections. This makes it easy to apply learnings to new data and complete personal & professional projects..

Transforming Product Management with AI

Raul's new technical skills have transformed how he approaches his role as a Product Manager. Recently, he needed to analyze user feedback about a specific feature to inform his roadmap planning. Instead of spending hours manually reviewing feedback, he put his DataCamp skills to work.

Using DataLab, he created a notebook that leveraged the OpenAI API for feedback classification. He implemented few-shot learning techniques to accurately categorize the feedback, ensuring the analysis followed best practices for data privacy and anonymization. What would have been days of manual review became an automated process that provided clear, actionable insights for his next six months of product development.

I could spend hours reading feedback, or I could use AI. With Datalab, I created a notebook, ran classification, and got actionable insights for my roadmap in no time.
