Terms & Conditions
Data4Good — Official Terms & Conditions
1) Sponsor, Host & Prize Administrator
The “Data4Good Competition” (the Promotion) is sponsored and hosted by DataCamp, Inc., 350 Fifth Avenue, Suite 7730, New York, NY 10118 USA (the Sponsor and Host). DataCamp is responsible for running the live trainings, administering the case challenge, and communicating/announcing regional results.
Prize Administrator. Butler University (Lacy School Of Business) (the Prize Administrator) is solely responsible for the administrative tasks related to cash prize fulfillment, including contacting winners for payment information, collecting any required tax forms, and issuing/disbursing all cash prizes. For clarity, DataCamp does not issue or deliver cash prizes.
2) Eligibility
- Open to teams comprised solely of individuals who, at the time of entry and prize award, are (i) enrolled in an undergraduate or master’s degree program at an accredited institution in the United States or Canada, and (ii) 18 years or older (or the age of majority in their jurisdiction, if higher).
- Team size: 3–4 eligible students per team. Teams must declare their education level (undergraduate or master’s) for evaluation purposes.
- All participants must use an academic email address (e.g., “.edu” or institutionally issued) for all competition activities and must use the same email consistently across forms and submissions.
- Officers, directors, and employees of Sponsor and its affiliates, and members of their immediate household, are not eligible.
- Void where prohibited by law.
3) Promotion Period & Key Deadlines
- Registration deadline: October 31, 2025 (11:59 p.m EST). Only one registration form per team.
- Live training sessions: October–December 2025 (schedule to be posted; recordings available for points accrual).
- Certification deadlines: Decemper 8, 2025 (Microsoft AI‑900) and December 31, 2025 (SAS badge).
- Case Challenge submission deadline: January 11, 2026 (11:59 p.m. [time zone]).
- Regional winners announced: January 13, 2026. Sponsor’s systems are the official time‑keeping devices. Sponsor may adjust dates/times with notice on the competition page.
4) How to Enter (No Purchase Necessary)
- Form your team (3–4 eligible students) and register by the registration deadline.
- Participate in live or recorded trainings and pursue listed certifications to earn points as described in Section 6.
- Complete the Case Challenge and submit all required deliverables by the deadline (see Section 7). Entries generated by bots, scripts, or automated methods are void. One team may be registered by any one team member; by doing so, that registrant represents they have teammates’ permission.
5) Code of Conduct; Academic Integrity
Participants must act professionally and respectfully. All work must be original to the team (except approved third‑party tools, models, code, or datasets as permitted by the rules) and must cite sources appropriately. Plagiarism, unauthorized collaboration outside the declared team, or violation of institutional policies will result in disqualification.
6) Scoring Overview (Points Model)
Team standings incorporate three components; relative weights are provided for transparency and may be adjusted for fairness or feasibility:
- Live/Recorded Training Attendance: up to 3,000 team points (~29.8%) across scheduled sessions.
- Industry Certifications: up to 5,550 team points (~37.7%) for qualifying certifications (e.g., Microsoft AI‑900; one SAS badge track).
- Case Challenge: up to 6,000 team points (~34.6%) based on the evaluation in Section 7. Detailed session calendars, individual/team point caps, and accepted certifications will be posted on the competition page. Sponsor may verify attendance and certification completion via provided evidence or partners.
7) Case Challenge — Deliverables & Judging (Skill‑Based)
Dataset & Objective. Teams will receive a Q&A dataset to classify model outputs into three classes—Factual, Non‑factual/Contradiction, and Irrelevant—and propose methods to detect and improve factuality in AI‑generated educational content. Deliverables include (a) predictions for a hidden test set, and (b) a reproducible notebook/report detailing methodology, experiments, and recommendations. Evaluation. Model performance is measured using a custom weighted confusion framework with equal class weighting (≈33.3% each) across Factual, Contradiction, and Irrelevant. Teams are ranked by test‑set performance; qualified judges will then review notebooks for methodological rigor, clarity, and impact to determine final standings and regional champions. Ties will be resolved by the team with the stronger score in the class/metric most material to factuality (to be specified on the challenge page). Judges’ decisions are final.
8) Prizes & Approximate Retail Value (ARV)
Regional Prizes (per education level):
- Region 1 (West): Undergraduate Team $2,000; Master’s Team $2,000.
- Region 2 (Midwest): Undergraduate Team $2,000; Master’s Team $2,000.
- Region 3 (South Central): Undergraduate Team $2,000; Master’s Team $2,000.
- Region 4 (West & Canada): Undergraduate Team $2,000; Master’s Team $2,000.
National Prizes (per education level): First/Second/Third Place — amounts to be announced prior to final national judging.
Prizes are awarded to the team; distribution among members is the team’s responsibility. Prizes are non‑transferable and may be substituted by Sponsor with a prize of equal or greater value if unavailable.
Prize Fulfillment & Payment. All cash prizes will be administered and paid by the Prize Administrator, Butler University (Lacy School Of Business), not by DataCamp. Prize payment timelines, method (e.g., ACH, wire, check), currency, and any additional documentation are determined by Butler University. Winners must provide all information requested by Butler University (e.g., IRS Form W‑9/W‑8BEN, banking details) to receive payment. DataCamp has no obligation or responsibility for cash prize payment.
Taxes and Reporting. The Prize Administrator is responsible for prize‑related tax reporting where applicable; winners are responsible for all taxes, duties, and compliance obligations associated with accepting a prize.
9) Winner Notification & Verification
Potential winners will be notified by DataCamp via the email(s) provided at registration. To be confirmed as winners for cash prizes, each team member must then complete any forms and processes required by Butler University (Business School) and provide accurate payment details within the timeframe specified by Butler University. If a potential winner cannot be contacted, fails to respond or complete Butler’s requirements on time, or is ineligible/non‑compliant, the prize may be forfeited and, at Sponsor’s and/or Butler University’s discretion, awarded to an alternate based on the next highest standing.
10) Intellectual Property & Licenses
Except for third‑party materials used under license, teams retain ownership of their submissions. By entering, teams grant Sponsor a non‑exclusive, worldwide, royalty‑free, sublicensable license to use, reproduce, modify, and display submissions for administering the Promotion and for promotional purposes, with appropriate attribution where feasible. Teams represent they have all rights necessary and that their submissions do not infringe third‑party rights.
11) Data & Privacy
Personal data will be processed to administer the Promotion, verify eligibility, contact winners, and as otherwise described in Sponsor’s Privacy Policy (https://www.datacamp.com/privacy-policy) and Terms of Use. For EU/UK participants (if any), lawful basis will be legitimate interests (administering a skill‑based competition) and/or consent where required. Data may be transferred internationally subject to appropriate safeguards.
12) Publicity
Except where prohibited, participation constitutes permission for Sponsor to use team name, members’ names, likenesses, institution, and submission excerpts for promotional purposes in any media without further compensation.
13) Conduct; Disqualification
Sponsor may disqualify any team or individual for tampering with the entry process or systems, violating these Terms or the spirit of the Promotion, or engaging in academic misconduct or unsportsmanlike behavior.
14) General Conditions; Force Majeure
Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, or incomplete entries; technical failures; or unauthorized human intervention. If the Promotion cannot be conducted as planned due to fraud, technical failures, or causes beyond Sponsor’s control (including public health events or natural disasters), Sponsor may modify, suspend, or cancel and, if feasible, determine winners from eligible entries received prior to the action. Prize fulfillment, including payment and tax reporting, is the sole responsibility of the Prize Administrator (Butler University).
15) Governing Law; Disputes
These Terms and the Promotion are governed by the laws of the State of New York (USA), without regard to conflict‑of‑laws rules. Disputes will be resolved individually in the courts of New York, New York, unless Sponsor offers or law requires binding arbitration or small‑claims alternatives. Consumers’ non‑waivable statutory rights (if any) remain unaffected.
17) Platform Disclaimers (If Applicable)
The Promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed, or administered by, or associated with, any social media platform used for announcements or communications.
